Starting Epic Seven on Steam is a different proposition from starting it on a phone in 2019. The PC client arrives with the Foundry server, a stack of growth buffs, twenty free Covenant summons a day and a guaranteed limited 5-star at Rank 70. The bottleneck is no longer "do I have heroes"; it is deciding which of them deserve the first set of gear.

This route assumes a fresh Foundry account, no prior knowledge, and a willingness to play the first week efficiently rather than perfectly.

The first hour

  1. Install Epic Seven from Steam and finish the tutorial.
  2. Choose the Foundry server when the game asks. This is the launch server with the buffs and the isolated matchmaking pool.
  3. Claim the Foundry Server Welcome Gift from the pop-up, then check the mailbox for the growth bundle.
  4. Complete the first chapters of the main story until Summon and Hero management unlock.
  5. Use the free Covenant summons available on day one, but do not spend Skystones on extra pulls yet.

The tutorial is generous with starter heroes. Ras, Mercedes and the first healer you receive are enough to clear the early story. Do not invest Molagora or high-level gear into them; the free summon stack will replace most of the starting roster within a week.

Foundry buffs expire

The Foundry buffs last until December 31, 2026. Every day you delay the start is a day of +30% EXP, +30% Gold and doubled rune drops you never get back.

What the launch actually gives you

The event calendar is dense, so it helps to separate the rewards that change your account from the ones that are merely nice.

Reward How to get it Why it matters
20 free Covenant summons per day Foundry summon support event Builds roster depth without Skystones
Up to 1,260 free summons Same event, across the period Enough pulls to plan around results
5-star Luna (Limited) Reach account Rank 70 A real limited unit for every account
Glacial Purity skin Same Rank 70 reward Cosmetic, but free
Growth bundle Login during the event, check mailbox Penguins, runes, catalysts and Spirit Bloom
New Moon Luna skin Foundry login gift Cosmetic
Event dungeon access Clear 6th World Episode 1-6 Catalysts and charm exchange

The 1,260 summon figure is a total across the event, not a lump sum. It comes from the daily twenty, so the only way to capture most of it is to log in consistently.

Days 1-3: story, summons and the first team

Push the main story until you unlock Hunts, Spirit Altar and the Event dungeon. Story clears give Gold, Skystones and equipment, and they unlock the systems that make everything else faster.

Build one general-purpose team of four:

Role What to look for Starter options
Damage AoE or strong single-target Mercedes, free DPS from summons
Healer Cleanse or continuous healing Destina, Angelica, Montmorancy
Support Attack buff, CR push or debuff Ras, Elson, whatever the pulls give
Flex Debuffer or second damage Depends on pulls

Do not chase a perfect composition in the first three days. The free summons will keep changing the roster, and the story does not require a tuned team.

Spend the daily free summons in one batch, note the 5-stars, then stop. Pulling one at a time makes it harder to see what you actually own.

Days 4-7: unlock Hunts and pick a farming lane

Hunts are the gear engine. Wyvern is the first Hunt most accounts should build because Speed, Hit and Crit sets fit almost every opener and most PvE damage dealers.

The stable Wyvern 13 core uses Brieg, Furious, Muwi and Sigret. Brieg tanks the front row, Furious and Muwi apply debuffs, and Sigret does the damage. If you do not own all four, run a lower stage with a substitute tank and keep the same role structure.

Slot Job Budget substitute
Front tank Survive, apply debuffs Any Knight with high HP and Defense
Debuffer Keep two debuffs on the boss Furious is the ideal; any consistent debuffer works
Damage Kill before the shield phase Sigret is the benchmark; other Ice DPS can start
Flex More debuffs or damage Muwi, or a second Ice damage dealer

The full stat targets and turn order are in the Wyvern 13 auto team guide. For the first week, clearing Wyvern 11 or 12 consistently is better than failing Wyvern 13 in one run out of three.

Week 2: Rank 70 and the Luna decision

Account Rank 70 is the most valuable early milestone because it delivers Luna, a limited 5-star, plus her skin and Penguins. Rank EXP comes from story stages, daily missions and event content, and the Foundry buff adds 30% on top.

Luna is a strong single-target Ice damage dealer with a self-attack buff and a debuff on her skill set. She is not a replacement for a full Wyvern team, but she gives every new account a limited unit that would otherwise require a limited banner.

By the end of week two you should have:

  • A stable team for at least one Hunt 11+ stage.
  • A main story team that can clear the current episode.
  • One healer and one support at a usable level.
  • Enough gold to enhance the first speed boots.
  • A plan for the next 5-star selector, if one is available.
Build one team

Do not spread gear across ten heroes. Epic Seven's early game rewards one strong team far more than five mediocre ones. Move your best speed and damage gear to the hero who carries each fight.

Week 3-4: Abyss, Arena and the first speed check

Once one Hunt team works, start Abyss. The early floors give Skystones, Gold and equipment, and they teach the debuff and turn-order lessons that later bosses assume you know. The Abyss guide covers the team archetypes that solve most floors.

Arena is the other low-cost progression source. Even a weak defense earns conquest points, and the shop sells useful weekly items. Do not worry about rank in the first month; take the free points and use them.

Speed tuning becomes relevant around this point. A damage dealer that moves after the enemy's opener never gets to attack. The speed tuning guide explains how to order a team without needing a spreadsheet.

What to buy with the first resources

Resource First priority Avoid
Skystones Hero inventory expansion, then selective banners Refreshing shop before you have a team
Gold Speed boots and weapon enhancements Enhancing low-level gear to +15
Bookmarks Save for a limited or strong banner Random covenant pulls outside free summons
Molagora One core PvE damage dealer and one healer Spreading across the starter roster
Powder Key artifacts for your main team Cosmetic or off-build artifacts
Energy Hunt events and story push Farming stages you cannot clear quickly

The launch buffs make Gold and EXP less painful, but Molagora and gear charms remain scarce. Treat them as the real budget.

Mistakes that cost new accounts a month

Building too many heroes. Pick four for story and four for Hunts. Everything else waits.

Ignoring the free summons. Twenty a day is the single largest source of roster value in the launch window.

Farming Wyvern 13 too early. A 70% clear rate at Wyvern 11 beats a 30% clear rate at Wyvern 13 because failed runs still cost energy.

Selling gear by colour alone. A blue gear with speed and the right percentage substats can outperform a red gear with flat stats. Check the substats before selling.

Skipping the event dungeon. Catalysts are a hard gate on skill enhancement, and the event exchange is the cheapest source during the launch period.

FAQ

What should I do first on the Steam launch server?

Clear the story until the game unlocks Hunts, then build the Wyvern 13 core. The launch buffs make early progression faster, but gear and debuff coverage still decide whether the team works.

Should I choose Foundry or an older server?

Foundry is the better choice for a new account because of the launch buffs, the free Luna track, and the fresh matchmaking pool. Older servers are for players with existing accounts and friends.

Do I need to spend money to progress?

No. The launch rewards cover the first month of progression. Spending accelerates gear and summon attempts, but it does not replace the Wyvern team or the stat thresholds.
