The selective summon is the first real decision a new Epic Seven account makes. It is also the most misunderstood: players save the wrong result, keep an artifact instead of a hero, or spend an hour chasing a 5-star that does not fix their account.

The mechanic is simple once you see the structure. Thirty rolls, one 5-star in each roll, one result kept.

How the selective summon works

After the opening story, a new account unlocks the selective summon. You roll a set of ten heroes, inspect it, and either keep it or roll again. You get up to thirty of these rolls.

  • Each roll contains one 5-star hero or 5-star artifact, guaranteed.
  • The 5-star appears in the roll; the rest of the set is 4-star and 3-star heroes.
  • You can record one result while you continue rolling.
  • Once you confirm a result, the selective summon ends.
  • The pool is the standard Covenant pool. Limited and Moonlight heroes are not included.

The thirty rolls do not all need to be used. If the first roll has Sigret, confirm it and move on. The goal is a functional account, not a perfect screenshot.

Record before rerolling

Record a good result before rolling again. The record slot holds one set, and forgetting to record is how players lose the roll they actually wanted.

What to keep

The 5-star choice should fill the biggest hole in a new account. For most players, that hole is Wyvern damage.

Priority Hero Role Why
1 Sigret Ice single-target DPS The benchmark Wyvern damage dealer
2 Destina Soul Weaver Healing and cleanse for story and Abyss
3 Tamarinne Soul Weaver / support Healing, CR push and attack buff
4 Vildred Earth AoE DPS Fast story and event farming
5 Brieg Ice Knight Wyvern front tank
6 Angelica Ice Soul Weaver Barrier and immunity
7 Bellona Earth Ranger AoE defense break for later Hunts
8 Ravi Fire Warrior Durable bruiser for early story
9 Charlotte Fire Knight Front-line damage and protection
10 Chloe Ice Warrior Debuff damage with Wyvern utility

Sigret is first because Wyvern is the first Hunt that matters and she is the cleanest damage solution. Destina and Tamarinne are close because a new account with no healer stalls on story bosses and Abyss floors.

If you already have a Wyvern damage dealer from the free summons, take the healer. If you have both, take Vildred for farming speed.

Heroes to skip in the selective summon

Hero Why skip
A 5-star artifact A hero fills a team slot; an artifact needs a hero to use it
A second copy of a 5-star Imprinting is a late-game concern
A PvP-only unit New accounts cannot gear it
A hero you dislike You will use the farmer every day; pick one you can stand

A 5-star artifact can be the correct choice for an experienced player starting a second account, but not for a first account. Artifacts drop from other sources; a role-defining hero does not.

What the rest of the roll is worth

The non-5-star heroes matter. Some 3-stars and 4-stars are core to the Wyvern team and remain useful for years.

Hero Rarity Value
Furious 4-star Defense break and debuffs for Wyvern
Muwi 3-star Budget Wyvern pressure
Alexa 3-star Budget Ice damage with debuff synergy
Mistychain 3-star Budget debuffer and healer
Angelic Montmorancy 3-star Cleanse and immunity after specialty change
Lena 3-star Fast low-level farmer
Kluri 3-star Utility tank after specialty change

A roll with Sigret plus Furious is better than a roll with Sigret plus three unrelated 4-stars. Check the whole set, not just the gold border.

The 30-roll strategy

There are two reasonable approaches.

Stop at the first role-defining hero. This is the efficient route. If Sigret, Destina or Tamarinne appears in the first five rolls, keep it and start playing.

Use all thirty rolls for a specific target. This is the perfectionist route. It costs time and produces a marginally better start, not a different account trajectory.

For most players, the first approach is correct. The launch economy gives twenty free Covenant summons a day, and the selective summon is only one source of heroes. A account that starts playing sooner will outpace one that spends another hour rolling.

Role before rarity

Do not confirm a roll just because it has a 5-star. Check the role. A 5-star PvP unit with no PvE team is worse than a 4-star healer that lets you clear story.

Selective summon versus rerolling

Feature Selective summon Rerolling
Control Choose one of 30 rolls Restart the whole account
Cost Free, built into new-account flow Time and account resets
Pool Standard 5-stars Standard pool plus banner luck
Best use Fill one role Chase a specific banner hero
Risk Low High; can lose a good account

The selective summon is the better tool for a new player. Rerolling is only worth considering if you want a specific limited hero, which the selective summon cannot provide. The reroll guide explains when that is worth the time.

After the pick

  1. Build the chosen hero to level 50 immediately.
  2. Give them the best gear from the story rewards.
  3. Pair them with a healer and a tank for story.
  4. Unlock Hunts and start the Wyvern core.
  5. Save the next 5-star selector for a role you still lack.

The beginner tier list shows which heroes remain useful after the first month, and the beginner guide covers the thirty-day plan.

Common questions

Can I get a limited hero from the selective summon? No. Limited heroes are banner-only.

Can I get a Moonlight hero from the selective summon? No. Moonlight heroes come from Moonlight summons and selectors such as the Blessing.

Does the selective summon expire? It is part of the new-account flow, so use it before progressing too far. The game will prompt you when it is available.

Should I keep a 5-star artifact? Only if you already have a strong hero for it. A new account needs a hero more than an artifact.

Can I change my pick later? No. Confirming the result ends the selective summon.

FAQ

How does Selective Summon work?

You get 30 ten-pull sets, and each set must contain at least one five-star hero or artifact. You can record one result and confirm it when you are satisfied.

Who should I pick in Selective Summon?

Sigret is the best default for Wyvern. Destina or Tamarinne are strong if you need a healer or cleanser, and Vildred is a fast story farmer.

Should I take a five-star artifact instead of a hero?

No for a new account. A hero fills a team slot; an artifact without the right hero is a much smaller upgrade.
